Eyelash Extensions for Mature Eyes

Eyelash Extensions for Mature Eyes

The amazing thing about eyelash extensions is that there is no age limit! Many of us have clients with mature eyes that absolutely rock them. In fact, you may have multiple mature clients who love maintaining their lashes and trying out different styles, so for these clients let’s review everything you need to know about mature eyes and their lashes.

MATURE EYES NEED SPECIFIC CARE

Mature eyes come with different concerns and require a unique kind of care compared to younger eyes. Let’s talk about a few of the concerns that come with having mature eyes that can impact the eyelash extension process.

SKIN BECOMES LESS ELASTIC AND MORE WRINKLED

Our skin loses elasticity from head to toe as we age, which is due to the decrease in collagen production. Diet, sleep, and sun damage all play a major role in how much collagen our bodies retain.

Wrinkles are a natural and harmless part of aging and are very common around the eyes. Wrinkles usually occur later in age because the skin under the eyes is extremely thin and naturally more prone to wrinkling over time.

MUSCLES AROUND EYES WEAKEN

Similar to the muscles all over our bodies, the muscles around our eyes will also weaken with age. This weakness can cause droopy skin and impede vision. You might have clients with eyelids that droop and hang level with their pupil so be sure to consider this when you are mapping their eyes and finding the right lash extension style for them.

LASHES ARE MORE FRAGILE

Our lashes are already naturally fragile but as we age, we need to be even more aware of what products we are using on our delicate lashes. Lashes over time become thinner and more brittle which will later play a role in which lashes and products you will use on clients who have more fragile natural lashes.

Note: Mature woman will experience very fragile lashes after menopause. The loss of estrogen post menopause can kill hair follicles and cause lashes to become very weak and fragile.

BEST LASHES FOR MATURE EYES

Finding the right lash for your clients with mature eyes can be difficult due to the different conditions their lashes and skin around their eyes might be in. We’re sharing with you our favorite lashes to use on mature clients.

C Curl

C curl lashes are a fantastic choice for every eye, especially mature eyes since they work great on slightly drooping eyelashes. They also help make the eye pop while not being an overly dramatic look.

B Curl

We love how B curl lashes keep lashes looking wonderful and full while not giving too much of a curl for clients who want a more natural look.

HOW TO GET STRONGER NATURAL LASHES

If your client is looking at wanting to improve their natural lashes, we recommend suggesting them the tips below.

USE A SERUM

Eyelash growth serums are like vitamins for your eyelashes and we recommend using a natural serum that contains ingredients such as biotin, keratin and peptides. Inform your clients that it is crucial to read the ingredients carefully, as mature people need to avoid lash serums that contain isopropyl cloprostenate since it lowers the intraocular pressure (the pressure or force inside your eye) in glaucoma patients.

Note: Let clients know that if they have been diagnosed with glaucoma, they should not use lash serums because they can cause serious side effects such as acute blindness.

DITCH YOUR MASCARA

Mascara can be harmful to your eyelashes, especially waterproof mascara. We recommend not wearing mascara with eyelash extensions already but for clients looking at strengthening their lashes while not having eyelash extensions on, we also recommend keeping the mascara away. UPGRADE YOUR SKINCARE

There are numerous eye creams that can help even out the skin around the eyes. Advise your clients to purchase an eye cream to be applied daily if they are wanting to hydrate and reduce the appearance of puffiness around their eyes. We love using the Ultraceuticals eye creams to achieve younger looking eyes.
